Description
Avenger is a 1-player, science-fiction arcade game.
The player is the pilot of an Earth Defence Force fighter, which must be used to annihilate ships of the evil Pyrophyllian Empire using ammunition plundered from the enemy. The ship can move in all directions, and fires directly forwards. The game consists of three screens, two of which allow the player to gain ammunition, while the third lets the player use it. The difficulty level selects the number of lives the player starts with from 1–9.
On screen 1, the player must land on the munitions stores in green while avoiding the orange cross-shaped mines. Each successful landing gains 10 shots. Each object blasted scores a point, while hitting a mine loses a life. On screen 2, the player tries to blast all the enemies that come swooping in from the right of the screen. Each hit scores five points, while collisions cost a life and add 50 onto the timer. The object of screen 3 is to reach the top without colliding with an enemy. Getting there gains 250 points, and allows the player to access further stored ammunition. The player has the remaining time on the timer and up to three lives to reach the goal. When the player runs out of time, they are shot by a missile which can't be avoided. After every successful raid, the player restarts the three screens, but enemies move faster and the timers are reduced.
