80s Pop Culture Quiz Night DVD Game

Moby ID: 205384

Description

This is a family game for two teams, a red team and a blue team. The game is hosted by Suggs, the lead singer of the band Madness, who were very big in the '80s. He not only introduces the game; he also reads all of the questions as well as the in-game instructions.

There are three game formats available:

  • The Quick Game - the first to 25 points wins
  • The Short Game - played to 50 points
  • The Long Game - ends at 80 points

All questions are timed and must be answered within 10 seconds. A standard question will score five points if answered correctly and within the allowed time but before playing a question, a team can opt to gamble.

There are three kinds of gamble available; a correctly answered can either score more bonus points, or it can double the team's score (the downside being that if the question is not answered correctly the team's score is wiped out), or it can steal points from the other team.

The types of question are:

  • Which Year? Typically the team is shown a picture of an artist or a personality and then asked when did a particular event take place. The player picks a year from the four on offer.
  • Fact or Crap: A simple true/false question.
  • Missing Lyrics: A famous line from a famous song is shown with one word missing; the player selects their answer from a choice of four.
  • Picture This: Here the picture shown to the team looks a bit like a colour negative and the team has to identify who it is.
  • Suggs Says: Best described as questions that do not fit into the other categories and which are sometimes based on quotes.
  • A.K.A.: These are questions about the real names of famous people from the '80s.
  • Odd One Out: Example question could be "Which of these songs was not a hit for X in the 80s?" or "Which band did X not play for?"
  • 1 Hit Wonders: Typically "Who had a hit with this song?" or sometimes "This song was a hit for which of these singers?"

The game keeps score so there is no need for pencils and pieces of paper.
