Carry On Quizzing

Description

Carry On Quizzing is a quiz game based on the Carry On series of films, it can be played as either a single player game or as a multi-player game for up to four players. It is presented by Richard O'Brien of Rocky Horror and Crystal Maze fame.

This is quite a basic quiz with just six hundred questions and no difficulty levels. All the questions multiple choice questions with four answers, responses are made using the up/down/left/right controls of the remote. At intervals, usually at the end of a round or the start of a new one, the player(s) are treated to a classic 'Carry On' film clip.

A game consists of four rounds of five questions and the game keeps score for both the single and multiplayer games. At the end of each round, assuming some questions have been answered correctly, the player(s) advance down the Carry On Hall Of Fame. When a question is answered incorrectly the player(s) are told this but the correct answer is not revealed,

The single player game is straightforward quiz. A question is shown, the player responds, they are told whether their answer was right or wrong and the process repeats until the end of the round and, eventually, the end of the game.

In the multiplayer game the players play as one of four teams, Team 1 is Sid James' "Helping Hands"; Team 2 is Barbara Windsor's "Chayste Place Girls"; Team 3 is Charles Hawtrey's "Devils In Skirts"; team 4 is Hattie Jaques' "Glam Cabs". Questions are asked in four rounds each with five questions, as in the single player game. If the question features a picture, sound or video clip this is shown only once before each team in turn is asked the same question. The game lets the player's know if they were right or wrong but nothing on-screen gives any indication which answer they selected so as long as no-one peeks at the DVD remote while the button is pressed every team has an equal chance of guessing the right answer.

There are five types of questions:* Carry On Guessing: these are straightforward trivia questions

  • Have A Butcher's: These are based on a still photograph
  • Carry On Watching: These are based on a video clip
  • Quite An Earful: Based on a sound clip
  • Ohhh Matron: This kind of question is based on a quote either from a film or something Carry On related said by one of the actors/actresses in an interview

Questions are all linked to the Carry On films but they are not necessarily directly linked, for example one question was 'Carry On star 'X' played which of these roles in Dr. Who?', another example question is ''While working on which of the following films did 'Y' meet Sid James who brought him into the next Carry On film?'
