Cartagra: Affliction of the Soul
Description
Cartagra: Affliction of the Soul is a dark and psychological Japanese adult visual novel which takes place in Japan six years after the end of World War II. The player controls Shugo Tokisaka, an ex-police detective who now spends most of his days at a brothel. Although content to spend the rest of his life away from conflict, Shugo is called back into the fray when his former boss, Kazuma Arishima, calls in a favor to get him to investigate the disappearance of a girl from a wealthy family. Upon visiting the family's mansion, Shugo meets Kazuna Kozuki, the apparent twin sister of Yuna Kozuki, a girl with whom Shugo had had an intimate relationship before he was sent off to fight in the war. Shugo and Kazuna's search leads them head-first into the mystery of a string of brutal killings, where they discover that not everything is as it seems in the recovering, post-war nation.
As the player (as Shugo) progresses in their investigation, they encounter a diverse cast of characters, each with their own secrets and motives. The narrative explores themes of guilt, redemption, and the human condition. Players will need to make choices throughout the game which can lead to various branching paths and multiple endings. The game features voice acting for all significant characters except the protagonist and contains scenes with explicit sexual content.
