Description official descriptions

NHL 2K3 is the first hockey game on the XBox to support XBox Live.

Using it's partnership with the ESPN sports network, Sega has created NHL 2K3 using the same presentation method as ESPN. Natural camera transitions, cut scenes, and overlay graphics are all used in cooperation with ESPN to give the game a more realistic feel.

All the standard game modes are here, from exhibition games and playoff games, to a very in depth Franchise mode that gives you complete control over your team. You act as the general manager, coach, scout and player. You can negotiate contracts, make trades, and draft rookies.

On the ice, you have a lot of control over your team as well. You can anchor lines with key players, rotate your lines to always be matched up, and make sure you have the advantage every which way.

You can also play online via XBox System Link or XBox Live. The latter allows you to connect to a player from anywhere, and engage in a game of hockey. Using the headset, you can taunt or compliment your opponent, without any interruption to the game.

Rosters are from the 2002-2003 season.

The best Xbox hockey game so far.

The Good
The real to life sounds of players crashing the boards, the pucks and sticks smacking each other, it's a beautiful from an Xbox game. And the game has a minor league system which I haven't seen yet. Plus, the capability of playing it online is extra sweet.

The Bad
The things I found wrong were once again the crowd because nobody can get it right, you just can't copy and paste people in the arena, that makes it just not believable and the anouncers are just plain annoying and I usually turn them off and create my own commentating.

The Bottom Line
The Xbox didn't disappoint and I say this to everyone: BUY IT NOW!

Well, its worth a try

The Good
Well, NHL 2K3 is Sega's competitor for EA's NHL 2003. In someways its better and worse.

One thing great about this game was new abilities that are not possible in ANY other NHL game. Like the ability to tackle someone and let another teammate steal the ball. Amazing. The physics that apply to the game are very realistic also. The sound is most convincing for any video game fan.

The Bad
I have to say that NHL 2K3 doesn't live up to NHL2003's superior graphics. The game looks grainy, choppy, and character models are horrible. You don't even get the little between play cut scenes offered in NHL2003.

The Bottom Line
While the game is very realistic, it just doesn't cut it without the graphics. If you are an XBOX user looking to try out some NHL action, don't look here. If you're a hard core hockey fan who wants a realistic game, NHL 2K3 is the answer. I think it is nothing without the graphics but because of the realism, it doesn't slump worse than my rating of 3 out of 5.
