Battle Phlinx

Description

Battle Phlinx is the multiplayer version of Phlinx, a Bust-A-Move variant with an Egyptian theme. Up to four players can play against each other either in a free-for-all mode or in teams of two. The players each have their own screen where a field of colored stones gradually descends towards the sun disk. Once the stones reach the bottom the player loses and the game plays out until only one is left standing. To prevent the field from getting to the bottom the players can use their sun disks to fling colored stones at the field. Like in typical color-matching games, if they hit a group of at least two stones of the same color they are removed together from the screen. Otherwise they just keep on piling up. The sun disk can be placed on one of three different platforms at the bottom of the screen in order to get a different angle. Furthermore, the side walls deflect the stones flung at them, so it's possible to make indirect shots.

The main difference compared to the single player game are the curse stones. The groups of three or more stones that get disconnected from the main field as a result of other matches drop down and become curse stones. They are then sent to other players. Before the game starts, it's possible to set up who out of the three opponents will receive them. This can be completely randomized as well. The curse stones will temporarily take up space in the opponents' fields and prevent them from making any matches in those particular areas.

Occasionally, power stones can be seen mixed with normal stones in the playing field. Once disconnected from the rest, they are added to the bottom of the screen and the player can use them as power-ups when needed. They have the following effects:

  • Sun Stone - explodes when it hits the playing field, removing any nearby stones.
  • Time Stone - moves the stone field back up by two rows.
  • Stone of Destruction - this power-up removes any stone (maximum 7-8 stones) it touches as it travels in a straight line.
  • Color Stone - removes all stones of a particular color.

After being eliminated, a player can still watch how the others perform and even send them pranks, by freezing their fields for a limited time.
