Description

Toby's Nose is an interactive fiction game based on the Sherlock Holmes stories, which places the player in an unusual role — that of Holmes's dog, Toby. A heir to a noble family has been killed, and Holmes counts on you to determine which of the suspects is guilty of murder. Though as a dog you're incapable of manipulating objects or communicating, your amazingly sensitive nose is sufficient to uncover the truth.

Accordingly, the most useful verb at the player's disposal is SMELL. From the scents alone, Toby can mentally reconstruct and explore entire vivid scenes, discovering a plethora of shameful secrets underneath the family's elegant veneer. The INVENTORY command serves to collect the vital clues smelled out so far. When the player feels confident of the murderer's identity, he must BARK AT the guilty party — which, depending on whether the choice was correct or not, ends the game in victory or humiliation.
