Vainglory
Description official description
Vainglory is a fantasy MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) game played with two teams of three players. The gameplay is typical for the genre, but adapted for touch based controls, with slightly smaller teams and matches that take around 20 minutes. Both sides attempt to destroy the other team's energy source, the Vain crystal, to win the game. Both sides are connected through a single lane with turret towers for defense and minions. Towers and minions are controlled by the computer, the players each control a single hero. Heroes attempt to influence the tug of war by killing other heroes, minions and towers to get close to the Vain crystal.
Other typical elements include a jungle where monsters can be killed to gain experience and gold, or to avoid having to go through the main lane. In the jungle the teams also fight for control over a main gold mine and two minion mines that provide a steady gold resource when possessed. There is also a large Kraken monster that can be defeated to use it as a minion. There are many heroes to choose from and they are divided into five types: Assassin, Mage, Protector, Sniper and Warrior. Movement is done by tapping on the screen and tapping a target makes the hero attack automatically. Each hero has access to three unique attacks as well as a heroic perk. By leveling up it is possible to upgrade attacks. These attacks are shown as icons near the bottom of the screen and require some time and energy before they regenerate. Various items and abilities influence the regeneration time.
Next to hero types, specific play styles are developed through upgrades and items. The collected gold can be spent at a shop, near the base or in the shop in the jungle. It provides utilities and consumables, but also skill trees for weapons, abilities and defense. The game recommends items automatically to upgrade quickly. When dead, heroes respawn after some time in the base and it is also possible to teleport back to the base to heal. Upgrades and experience are always lost after a match, but the player has a general profile where experience is used to level up. From level three it is possible to play public matches and from level ten ranked matches become available. The early parts of the game require the player to go through interactive tutorials or to practice against computer opponents. Players can judge each other's behaviour through a karma system. The game has a mini-map where movement can be tracked. There is no in-game chat, instead five symbols are used: a thumbs up, smile, crying, a drink, or OK.
The game is free-to-play based on two types of currencies: Glory (basic) and Ice (premium). Glory earned in-game unlocks a lot of content after grinding and in-app purchases with Ice are used to unlock the full roster of heroes, to use additional skins and to buy cards. A small numbers of heroes is available right away with regular rotation. Cards can be bought in the store, often as a box of cards, but they also drop after matches. Cards come in four varieties: common, rare, epic and legendary. They are tied to the skins and can be woven together to unlock skins in up to three tiers (introduced in May 2015). Cards can be traded with other players.
