Description

This wushu RPG-adventure spans the player's entire martial arts career in the Middle Kingdom, beginning with making decisions for a novice monk beginning his training at the monastery of the Order of the Peach Tree. Schooled by Abbot Bao and Master Shen, the player, now a star pupil, will further their training outside the monastery on a mission with rival student Lu Jin, sent to deal with bandit raids by the desperate Blue Turban outlaws, victims of scarcity imposed by competing foreigners occupying their traditional lands. Still the Emperor sits idle and does nothing.

After graduating through to higher levels of the Order, Master Shen sends you to his own Master Miao Zhuge, the Veiled Dragon, who trains the player further in combat and magic (or, if desired, more esoteric arts of strategy and poetry), following which the player sets up a school of their own in Governor Rong's provincial capitol of Kuei Xian with the help of Feng, a huli jing (seven-tailed trickster fox spirit). This period is marked by a fighting challenge from youxia Sun An, as well as a festival and, optionally, a romantic interlude where the player may seek a spouse -- or at least a companion.

Eventually the player is called upon to return to the monastery as the menace from the foreigners grows; the monastery's fate however is just a microcosm of that of the whole Middle Kingdom, and the monk is brought to the Imperial capitol at Xiaonanhai to compete in a clash of cultures, a demonstration match before the Emperor against the artless and dishonourable (but no less lethal) champions of western diplomat George Gower.

Should the player triumph and the Middle Kingdom's preeminence be demonstrated, the game resolves with the fated day the player had anticipated at game's start two decades earlier finally arrives, once a century when the Dragon Sage descends to the top of Xiaxue Mountain. On these occasions, the Order of the Peach Tree authorizes its most distinguished disciple to ask a question of the wise Dragon Sage. Will the player be the one chosen? What question will be asked?

The game is also available for Barnes & Noble's Nook e-reader.
