Description

Air Defense Simulation is most likely the first game ever made to be (partially) run on a computer. The game possibly ran on a UNIVAC computer at some point and allowed the simulation of air defense in North America. This would allow the US Army to play out scenarios and find the best strategy to employ. The program was intended to speed up existing simulation games that were played out without the use of computers. Many elements of the game were still played on paper, but most of the calculations were done by a computer to speed everything up. Modeled elements of war present in this game are enemy aircraft, anti-aircraft guns and naval guided missiles in a three dimensional grid.
