Rekkr: Sunken Land

REKKR (which means 'warrior' in Old Norse) is a fantasy-themed first-person action game running on the Doom's engine. Set in a dark world inspired by Norse and Celtic culture and mythology with some Steampunk elements thrown in, it casts the player as a Viking/Norse warrior returning from a lost war, only to find his homeland overrun by the spawn of the underworld, and his loved ones slaughtered. The protagonist sets off to avenge the fallen, and to cleanse the world of the living from the menace of these abominations.

Gameplay is largely similar to Doom and Heretic, but the player's arsenal and monster behaviours are substantially altered. The single-player campaign is split into four episodes, each containing eight regular levels and one secret level, making a total of 36 levels. The main objective in every level is to reach the exit while battling monsters and collecting useful gear, and often finding keys to locked areas to progress further. Secret areas found in the levels contain extra items such as additional weapons, armour and ammo, encouraging players to explore their surroundings. Each episode ends with a boss battle. The settings span from a remote Viking village to the vast city to the otherworld, and finally to the ruins of an ancient civilisation.

REKKR also includes a set of dedicated multiplayer arenas.
