Overview edit · view history
Sega Technical Institute was a San Francisco, CA development studio run by Sega of America between 1989 and 1996. The studio produced three original titles, Kid Chameleon, Comix Zone, and The Ooze, and also assisted other Sega divisions with development, notably Sonic the Hedgehog 2 with Sonic Team, and Die Hard Arcade with Sega AM1. Additionally, Sonic Team used the studio's facilities during the development of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Sonic & Knuckles, though the STI team was not directly involved with development of these titles.
The studio was disbanded in 1996 following the completion of Die Hard Arcade and the cancellation of Sonic X-Treme. Several key team members including Adrian Stephens and Peter Morawiec would go on to establish the development studio Luxoflux following STI's closure. Sonic Team would also later return to San Francisco in 1999 to establish Sonic Team USA. Other notable STI alumni include Mark Cerny and Stieg Hedlund.
