Acky's XP Breakout

Acky's XP Breakout is a Breakout game in a space setting. On each level, the player must destroy all the bricks by hitting them with a ball bounced off a moving paddle, keeping the ball from falling out the bottom of the screen. There are various types of bricks which behave in various ways, e.g. requiring more than one hit to destroy, or occasionally becoming intangible. Some bricks yield pick-ups when destroyed, which have a variety of beneficial and harmful effects, e.g. speeding up the ball, extending the paddle, creating a barrier to stop the ball from being lost, or giving the paddle weapons that can be used to destroy bricks. At any time, the player can choose to create a new ball on the playfield. This requires a certain amount of red and blue "ether", a resource which is replenished by certain power-ups.

There is a variety of score bonuses which can be triggered by special conditions - e.g. breaking several bricks in a row without having the ball touch the paddle, keeping two or more balls active for a minimum time, or quick completion of a level. Completing levels grants the player trophies, with more trophies increasing the player's rank, from Reflector (the lowest one) to Zen (the highest rank.) Furthermore, every rank has four tiers (Minion, Apprentice, Adept, Master), with higher tiers gained by collecting a minimum number of score bonuses. Getting numerous score bonuses eventually activates "XP mode", which grants the player a variety of free powerups for the next three levels.

The game also includes a custom level editor, and allows creating custom level packs.
