Game Groups > Protagonist: Visually customizable character
Games in which the player character can be visually customizable either at the start of the game or during the game via an in-built editor menu.
Limitations
- This excludes games where visuals are only changed when equipping various items or choosing a different class or preset skin.
- The character's face needs to be freely editable or selectable from a multitude of presets.
- The rest of the body's build is sometimes also subject to change.
- For games in which the player does not control a single character, at least one of them needs to be customizable. This includes strategy games where the player can have at least one customizable hero unit (e.g. 3D games in the Age of Wonders series)
- Games in which the characters can only change in statistics (agility, dexterity, speed, etc.) but not visual appearance (e.g. System Shock 2), do NOT belong in this group.
- Games in which the player controls a faction with customizable statistics but not a character as such (e.g. Empire Earth) also do NOT belong in this group.
- Games in which the player character is represented by a predefined avatar image only count if the in-game model can be changed as mentioned above (e.g. Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous).
