Original adventure freely inspired from Jules Verne
The Good
You discover little by little an interesting story with a classic-style humor.
The graphics are rich and you have sometimes different ways to solve the puzzles.
The puzzles involves some chemistry and physics knowledge, but at a very basic level.
The Bad
Some puzzles aren't at all intuitive so you can spend a lot of time running in circles.
The Bottom Line
This Journey to the Moon is only inspired by the Jules Verne work, the story being totally different from the original novels. But the game tries to keep the feeling of a 19th-century adventure.
I liked this game, it's not very difficult compared to the Myst-like games but it's more complex than the regular point-and-click adventure game.
Some puzzles are even time-limited or asks you to perform some jumping or catching, but you can't lose lives, you simply restart the puzzle. Anyway, it's a good idea to save often as you can try other ways for solving some difficult situations. Many puzzles can be solved in different ways and that’s giving the game some replay value and a non-linear path. This is quite rare in the adventure game world.
You start into the space capsule (well, the cannon bullet imagined by Jules Verne) with your two (dead) companions. Eventually you’ll land on the moon, not after taking some difficult decisions.
From this point the story becomes totally different from what Jules Verne imagined. You'll find strange plants that will be the main objects that you'll use for surpass the challenges that will permit you to go back to the Earth.
On the Moon there are even some strange beings, that aren't very strange with the Earth's human civilization. They seem to have a very low esteem on humans and it's up to you to change that opinion.
So, the story is quite rich and the ending is surprising. The graphics are good and there aren’t major bugs. I will recommend this game to any adventure fan, especially if you can find it at a special price. It's good for kids, too. But can be very difficult for those under 10.
