Jagged Alliance: Flashback

Jagged Alliance: Flashback is a crowd-funded reincarnation of the Jagged Alliance strategy series. The action takes place in 1988, on the Caribbean San Hermanos Island, ruled with the iron fist by The Prince. The rebellion leader Marion Shiro was captured and sentenced to death. Due to diplomatic reasons the U.S. government could not carry out an official intervention, therefore only a small C.I.A. strike team was sent to free the opposition leader. The mission was compromised and the helicopter shot down. The initial game mission requires finding the survivors.

Jagged Alliance: Flashback is an isometric-like third-person perspective turn-based strategy game. The role-playing elements of the game refer to character development. All characters are described by experience levels, 3 primary stats (physique, coordination, intelligence), 6 skills (marksmanship, medicine, mechanical, explosion, melee, stealth) and 4 perks. The player may create the initial character by using the I.M.P. questions system, introduced in Jagged Alliance 2 and the manual redistribution of the available points, supplemented with extensive visualization. The team mercenaries hiring system is largely unchanged.

The game takes place on a tactical satellite map, where the equipment, funds, mercenaries or militia are managed, or inside the individual sector as real-time exploration or in the turn-based combat mode. Traveling in sectors, exploring houses, and talking with NPC characters takes place in the real-time mode. The combat mode uses the turn-based Action Points system (previously used in games like Laser Squad or X-COM: UFO Defense), which is engaged after spotting the enemy unit.

There are 3 fire modes: single shot, burst fire and full auto fire. Aiming includes targetting the selected part of the body, differing levels of accuracy and a varied hit result. Mercenaries have quick slots that are accessible during combat at no additional Action Points cost. Using items, interaction with NPCs, searching objects, and training sector militia features also remain unchanged. Each combat team may consist of six mercenaries. The game allows to change the camera view and switch off the blood mode.
