Description

#BlackLivesMatter is a side-scrolling action game, meant as a satire of the controversial Black Lives Matter movement that campaigns against violence and racism. The player controls a police officer who must defend a police station from encroaching violent protesters. The policeman can kill the protesters with his gun, but ammo is limited, and must be purchased from vending machines for money earned for the kills; money must also be spent to open doors to upper floors. The player can occasionally find pickups such as more powerful guns.

Trivia

Banned for hate speech

The PC version of the game was originally sold on the itch.io website, and the Android version, completed in August, was going to be published on the Google Play Store. However Google rejected the game, stating that it violates their hate speech rules, while itch.io soon afterwards delisted the PC version for the same reason.

The developers, in an article subsequently published on the website Medium, described this as an instance of censorship. The incident was reported on a few websites, including the right-wing news websites Breitbart and Heat Street.

Both the PC and Android versions of the game were subsequently published as freeware on the developer's own website, which proudly described the game as "banned by Google Play and itch.io!" and stated that there was an "ongoing attempt to censor this game".
