Azkend 2: The World Beneath
Description
Azkend 2: The World Beneath is the sequel to Azkend and features mostly the same type of gameplay. The main mode is to highlight and connect three or more identical symbols. When matching symbols the background turns blue. If a tile has a steel plate, it must be matched twice to turn blue. When all tiles are blue the level is cleared and a relic appears at the top of the screen. To finish the level the relic needs to fall down to the bottom of the screen by clearing symbols below the relic. This main mode is timed and the relic can only be acquired before the timer runs out. Variants of the basic level feature fog which has to be uncovered, fire that needs to be put out, locks that needs to be unlocked etc. These special elements have different features. For example, the fire can spread if not dealt with. In these cases symbols adjutant to the fog/fire/lock needs to be matched to clear these elements. Another new game type is bugs, where a certain number of matches needs to be cleared before killing the bug. If the bug reaches the top screen, the level has to be restarted. Every few turns features a bonus level where the player sees a picture as well as a small portion of this picture. The objective is then to find the original location of this spot.
Similar to talismans of the original game, the player will collect special power-ups for their inventory. As the game progresses more power-ups are unlocked and these have special functions. They are divided into active power-ups that will spawn on the board which, and when four or more is matched, have special powers. For example dynamite that blows up surrounding blocks (and turns them blue). The other type is passive power-ups which changes the normal level in a way. For example giving the player more time, or removes one kind of symbol so that it is easier to find a match. Only one active and one passive power-up can be selected at any time.
