Description

This is the first Family Feud computer game based on the successful television game show. A few years later, Softie developed The All New Family Feud with more advanced graphics and music.

Two families compete against each other or against a computer family, 5 people per family. Just like in the tv show, there are 3 Rounds ending in a timed Bonus "Fast-Money" Round. Randomly generated questions are asked, and the object is to figure out the most popular answers from the 100 people poled. Each member of the family contributes during the Rounds, and two people play in the Bonus Round.

Old-school game show

The Good
Just like the TV show, it can be challenging and fun if you're in the mood to put thought into the questions. It's just a straight-forward representation of the usual program.

The only fun thing about this particular version of FF is the nostalgia of playing an old game, in particular, one that I remember from my childhood.

The Bad
Like just about any text-input game of this era, the results are hit-and-miss. Whereas the real TV game will cut the contestants a little slack in their answers, this game is not quite as lenient. For instance, I was asked this question during the Fast Money round: "Name something with a red light on it", and I typed "Stoplight". Wrong, zero points. With my second contestant, I answered "Traffic light" and received points. Kind of sucks when you're trapped into answering in only one way, though stoplight and traffic light mean the same thing!

When conducting the face-offs, it benefits the player most to buzz in as quickly as possible before even reading the question. To some extent, this is like the real show - it's more about being fast and then thinking later. But, it could be seen as a negative and perhaps not completely realistic.

This game came out in the late 80's, so over twenty years ago at the time of this review. A lot changes in twenty years, so some of the answers can appear quaint and outdated! That might pose an extra challenge to the modern game player.

The Bottom Line
If you're looking for a fun game show to play on your computer, you're probably going to look elsewhere - at other, more modern stuff. This version is most fun as a fond look back in time.
